Adult Christian Education
Adult Christian Education is a key way of growing in the knowledge and love of God.
Spiritual growth is essential as we continue to be disciples of Jesus Christ and changes in our daily course have not steered us from this.
Wesley is offering a variety of classes for the fall curriculum. All classes are virtual through Zoom. Sign up for the class(es) you are interested in.
Participants are asked to arrange for the purchase of their own books unlike other years where we order books in bulk. Materials can be sourced at Cokesbury, Amazon, or another bookseller of your choice. Please have the book(s) for the first class.
What is the Bible? Where did the Bible come from? Do I just pick it up and start reading? Bible 101 is a 3-week introduction to the Bible. Participants will get oriented with the Bible as well as learning to read the Bible for faith and life development. Bible 101 is a great place to start to join in other studies. Bible 101 will be virtual through Zoom and led by Pastor Chris. All welcome to attend.
Inner Compass by Margaret Silf
Inner Compass will help a mature Christian discover deeper awareness of God’s presence in daily life. Christians seeking to learn greater spiritual discernment practices will also benefit from participating. This class will read and discuss several chapters each week and allow time to discuss participant’s learnings and experiences. Inner Compass is written in a way which gives readers access to the deep work of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuit Order he founded. This study will be led by Pastor Chris on Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:15pm beginning October 4, 2020.
Shelter in God by Dr. David Jeremiah
Does your life feel upside down? Learn to Shelter in God as you shelter in place. Dr. David Jeremiah is founder of Turning Point, an international ministry committed to providing Christians with sound Bible teaching. He has written this personal book to provide inspiration for strength and courage from the Psalms. God is with us always. We can turn to him at any time. Join us via Zoom for a deeper look at ten sheltering Psalms. This study will be led by Rev. Dorothy Straks on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm beginning October 1, 2020.
Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad
Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad is a 28-day challenge to confront white supremacy. Through daily readings and journal questions, this book asks us to look at the way white supremacy manifests itself in our own lives and the systems we live in. The goal of this class is to introduce people to core concepts such as white privilege, color blindness, tokenism and examine the personal role these ideas play in our lives. This study will be led by Carlos and Jo Rickman on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm beginning September 30, 2020 for six weeks.
