Wesley UMC Response to the Coronavirus

Chris Yost

Wesley Family,

Many of you are aware of the monumental effort going on to change the direction of the COVID19/Coronavirus infection. The level of coordination going on in our community is critical and inspiring.

As Christians in the Wesleyan tradition, our first rule is to DO NO HARM. Certainly, for the first time in my life, we are in a season in which gathering together in person may be the most harmful thing we may do for each other. As a result, along with most UMC’s in the North Texas Conference, under the guidance of Bishop McKee and public health experts, Wesley is suspending all public activities at our campus. This includes include in-person worship. This suspension of activities will continue through the end of March.

Your Lay Leadership, your Staff and myself are in agreement that ministry continues even when we are not together in person. We will be broadcasting/streaming worship from our music and leadership teams live. You can watch live on GEUS/Spectrum or on our YouTube Channel and Facebook Page Wesley UMC Greenville. The Staff and I will meet Monday to plan out other ways to help connect you to soul food during these days of isolation.

Wesley has members who are in the at-risk group due to age or underlying health conditions. For those who are at risk, please follow the suggested recommendation of staying home. TEAM FAITH, HOPE & LOVE (FHL) is being set up to assist you. If you are in need of groceries or necessities, please call the church office at 903.455.1594 and leave the following message: Faith, Hope, & Love, your name and your phone number. Please speak clearly and leave your number twice to ensure we get it correct. Your call will be returned within 24 hours. Please note, you will be responsible for the cost of goods.

For those who are healthy and not at risk for severe exposure, please consider being on Team Faith, Hope, & Love. Volunteer here BE A HELPER.

Tithes, financial gifts and offerings may be made online at: wesleyumcgreenville.org. Click DONATE at the top of the page, scroll down and click DONATE THROUGH SECUREGIVE and follow the instructions. Expect more communication next week on remote learning activities, e-studies and ways to connect as a church family. Check on your neighbors who may not have a church home or people checking in on them. We are in prayer with you for all of God’s Children, uniquely for our Medical Professionals, the affected, those who do not know the Peace of the Holy Spirit at this time, and our governmental leaders.

In Christ with you,

Becky Bishop, Lay Leader
